Join the Smith College Club of Philadelphia on Friday, November 30, 2012 for a special tour of the Linda Lee Alter Collection of Art by Women at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, America’s first school and museum of fine art. This collection spans most of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century, and includes such renowned artists as Louise Bourgeois, Alice Neel, and Kiki Smith; it is also notable for its inclusion of artists of diverse backgrounds such as Faith Ringgold and Kara Walker. PAFA received the collection of nearly 400 works of art from Ms. Alter in 2011 and this will be its debut exhibition. There will be a lavishly illustrated catalog of the collection available for sale in PAFA’s store, Portfolio. The collection will also be available online at http://www.pafa.org. Be one of the first to have a tour of this wonderful exhibition!

Referendum or Choice? The 2012 Election and the Shape of Things to Come. Political science models that rely on economic indicators predict that the incumbent in a recession will lose… but lots of us wonder if that’s all there is to it.
The Smith College Club of Philadelphia is proud to announce that Marc Lendler, Professor of American Government, will be coming to Philadelphia on October 9th to speak to our group about the upcoming presidential election. For those who did not have the pleasure of taking a class with him, Professor Lendler is an engaging lecturer who is sure to bring a unique perspective to current electoral issues. We are thrilled to be holding this event at The Acorn Club, an elegant women’s club in Center City established in 1886. Join us for a delicious meal, followed by Professor Lender’s talk, and of course, time for Q&A and mingling afterwards. RSVP with pre-payment required.

Learn to design stunning arrangements that celebrate the bounty of Fall. Peicha Chang ‘03, owner and head designer of Falls Flowers, will lead this floral design workshop as part of our Smith Talent Exchange of Philadelphia (STEP) program. Enrollment is limited to 10, so RSVP today!
Fee includes base flowers and greens. Additional flowers are available a la carte. Bring your own container (we recommend 5-6” diameter, 5-10” high) or purchase one in class. Tools will be provided.

This workshop is an event of the Smith Talent Exchange of Philadelphia (STEP), providing opportunities for Smith alumnae to share their talents with fellow alums and the Greater Philadelphia community at large. A portion of your fee goes to support the Smith College Club of Philadelphia’s outreach activities.
