The annual meeting is an opportunity for club members to socialize as well as conduct club business, including the election of new board members. Are you interested in joining the board? Do you know someone who is? Nominations for board members can be sent to the club in advance or made at the meeting.

This year’s event takes place at the New Century Trust in Center City Philadelphia, an organization with roots going back to the Women’s Pavilion at the centennial exhibition in 1876. The Trust was active in Pennsylvania’s women’s suffrage movement and in providing both vocational training and social events for women. Today, the Trust continues to run programs to support it’s mission of improving the status of women and girls, preserving their landmark building, and educating the public about the Trust’s role in women’s history.

We’ll enjoy a tour of the Trust’s building, a National Historic Landmark, and learn more about this trailblazing organization. Register today! Email us at phillysmithclub@gmail.com to RSVP and let us know how you submitted payment.

Sister Cities Cafe and Visitor Center (from website)

Our monthly event in May will take place at the Sister Cities on Sunday, May 18th at 2:00pm. Join us for good company and fun in the outdoors. The park boasts a beautiful water fountain and a cafe which offers snacks and lunch. When you’re done eating and ready to explore,  there’s a boat pond and a “Children’s Discovery Garden. Inspired by Philadelphia’s Wissahickon Valley, the garden’s winding pathways and meandering stream provide a setting for discovery and imaginative play. Children can hike the trail, summit the “mountain” and enjoy the view, while connecting with the natural and man-made environments surrounding them.” I don’t know about you, but we are not of elementary-school age and we think this sounds fun!

Several Seven Sisters alums (including Smithies) are involved with this organization, and they have opened this event to Philly Seven Sisters alums free of charge.

Only one in every five girls in the developing world finishes primary school, and the gap is even wider in secondary education. This interactive program features speakers from two successful and innovative programs that partner to overcome these challenges and support girls from elementary school through secondary education. Tea and “Smith Through The Decades” Alumnae Panel at Beaumont

Our “Smith Through the Decades” event last year was such a hit that we’re doing it again! The Smith College Club of Philadelphia invites you to afternoon tea at the Beaumont retirement community on Sunday, March 2nd. Alumnae from a wide range of class years will be sharing stories about Smith during their time there. What was it like to be a Smith student during World War II? How did day-to-day life at Smith change in the 70’s as the Women’s Movement grew? What’s on the minds of today’s Smithies? Alumnae from the days of FDR through the Obama era will share and compare personal memories of their college years during nearly seven decades of tumultuous change. Enjoy delicious refreshments and great company as we explore our shared history!

We are currently looking for alums from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s to be a part of the panel discussion. Email the club at phillysmithclub@gmail.com if you’re interested!

Learn tips on preparing for negotiation, developing the courage to ask for what you want, knowing when to push and when to back off, building your credibility before and during a negotiation and when and how to get support from others in achieving your goals.
